Four Mediterranean ecosystems, 81 species with official MMA classification and 125 endemic to Chile coexist in El Ajial National Reserve.
The reserve's altitudinal range (700–2,500 m a.s.l.) creates a vertical sequence of communities, from the valley to the low Andean scrub.
Dominated by quillay (Quillaja saponaria), litre (Lithraea caustica) and frangel (Kageneckia angustifolia). Signature community of central Chile's piedmont.
One of the most valuable communities in the reserve, with lingue, peumo, canelo and luma. Highly restricted distribution and significant biogeographical value.
Community dominated by espino (Acacia caven), characteristic of the lower valley floors.
