Our work

The Fundación Santuario de la Naturaleza El Ajial is a non-profit organization established on 14 November 2016, devoted exclusively to the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of the territory that today comprises El Ajial National Reserve.

Its work centers on the effective protection of local populations of species under conservation status, the continuity of the ecosystem's evolutionary processes, the safeguarding of water and soil resources and archaeological heritage, and — to the extent compatible with these aims — the development of education, research and ecological restoration activities.

The Foundation manages the reserve by express consent of the owner, under article 103 of Law No. 21,600, and reports technically and financially to the Board and the SBAP.

Conservation work is not about watching trees grow or birds fly overhead — quite the opposite, it demands planning, knowledge, and above all being active in carrying out strategic actions with limited resources. At El Ajial we have work for fifty years: this has been a deeply disturbed environment and is today under serious threat.Andrés Pérez Peric · Executive Director
